SKIN AND BONES
There was an old woman all skin and bones
Ooo, ooo-oo-ooo
She lived down by the old graveyard
Ooo, ooo-oo-ooo
She thought one night she'd take a walk
Ooo, ooo-oo-ooo
She walked down by the old graveyard
Ooo, ooo-oo-ooo
She saw the bones a-layin' around
Ooo, ooo-oo-ooo
She thought she'd sweep up the old graveyard
Ooo, ooo-oo-ooo
She went to the closet to get a broom and BOO!
Directions: Circle formation w/teacher in center. The first time try
having
the children simply listen to the song spoken as a story. At the end of
each line pause while the children lower both hands from above their
head,
wiggling their extended fingers and softly wailing, ooooo, in a very
high
voice. After they have done this they should next push their hands
forward
and whisper the words "Skin and Bones" before you resume telling
the story each time. Suddenly shouting boo at the end can give
everybody
a fun scare but has been known to make some kindergarteners cry.
The next time try singing the song but first have everyone sit in a
circle and extend both their legs straight out and lay their folded arms
across their chest before leaning back into their "coffins."
Every time
you finish singing a line they then sit up while wiggling their fingers
and wailing and whispering as before. Right after the last line they
help out with a nice, short, loud BOO! The children can then move on to
singing the song while doing their "sit-ups" and love to put
their own
classroom teacher in the middle on a chair when she comes to pick them
up for really enjoyable surprise scare.

FIVE LITTLE GHOSTS ----- click HERE
to hear
Five little ghosts, all dressed in white
Tried to scare each other on Halloween night
"BOO," said the first ghost, "I'll catch you."
"WHOO," said the second, "I don't care if you do."
The third ghost said, "You can't run away from me."
The fourth ghost said, "I'll scare everyone I see."
The last ghost said, "It's time to disappear."
See you at Halloween night next year.
[ Can be performed as a finger play or a march / melody by Mr. Saphra ]
STIR AND MIX
Stir and mix
Mix and stir
Until it's bubbling hot
Throw some scary things to brew
Into the Halloween pot
Directions: Children sit in a circle on the floor and act out the words,
then take turns thinking of scary things to put into the imaginary pot
in the middle.

PUMPKIN, PUMPKIN
Pumpkin, pumpkin
Round and fat
Turn into a Jack-o-lantern
Just like that!
Directions: Chidren sit on floor in a circle surrounding one crouching
child. At the words "Just like that" the child in the middle
suddenly
jumps up and whirls around with a scary face and gesture. Another child
can stand on a chair and flick the lights on for a nice touch.
OLD WITCH
Old witch
Couldn't sew a stitch
Picked up a penny
And thought she was rich
[ Leader sings alone ] Are you my children?
[ Everyone else, softly ] Yes, ma'am
[ Leader sings alone] Are you my children?
[ Everyone shouts ] No, you old witch!
Directions: Chidren sit on floor in a circle surrounding one standing
child and act out the words of the song. This activity provides a good
opportunity to get to hear the leaders singing alone (Are you my
children?). It's also a lot of fun. At the end of each round the leader
spins around with eyes closed to pick the next leader.

I AM A PUMPKIN ----- click HERE to hear
I am a pumpkin,
Big and round
Once upon a time I grew in the ground
But now I have mouth,
Two eyes and a nose
What are they for do you suppose?
When I have a candle
Inside shining bright
I'll be a jack-o-lantern
On Halloween night, Halloween night
[ Melody by Mr. Saphra ]
JUAN LINTERNA / JACKIE LANTERN
Jackie Lantern, Jackie Lantern
Who are you, who are you?
I am but a pumpkin
I am but a pumpkin
BOO, BOO, BOO! BOO, BOO, BOO!
Juan Linterna, Juan Linterna
Quien eres tú, quien eres tú?
Una calabaza
Una calabaza
BOO, BOO, BOO! BOO, BOO, BOO!
[ The same melody as Frére Jaques or Where is Thumbkin ]

Old Mrs. Witch, old Mrs. Witch
Tell me how you fly, tell me how you fly
